Remember the funny old guy at my work, Jack, and his poems?

Well, he's at it again and this one's pretty good:

Corporate Ladder

Sometimes does it seem,
on life's long trail
perhaps it best to heed
sage advice
of those who prevail.

Some stop along the way,
tis to smell the roses,
so they say.

Perhaps it far better
they just stop
and munch,
lest while "smelling the roses"
Another come by
and eat their lunch!

For seemingly in
no time now at all,
do long shadows of dusk
most assuredly fall.

And they again look around
to see naught but bare ground.
Mere cannon fodder now
they've so quickly become,
their pale wrinkled faces
gone all sour and glum.

While upon high spire,
all smiling and bright,
those who once ate their lunch
now weild such great might.

Oh, pity on those
who once took the time
to follow their nose
when hard at work surely
should they have been
and not writing poems
to entertain a dear friend.
